Why Frozen Yogurt Shops Make Great Fundraising Destinations

With Girl Scout cookies going on sale this week the public consciousness is focused on fundraising more so than usual and that makes it a great time to decide on a venue for the next time you need a fundraiser.

In fact in many cases your local frozen yogurt shop makes for an ideal location to host a fundraiser and more often than not the owners are ready and willing to help make a difference in the community. Like owner of the Washington based frozen yogurt shop Twisties, Chad Thomas for example.

With framed pictures of smiling youngsters and thank you notes adorning the walls Twisties has become the ideal example of a business willing to lend a helping hand in the Thurston community. Thomas, a former Navy man, has a very simple philosophy when it comes to hosting fundraisers in his store, he let’s the group use the store for the entire day instead of just a few hours.

“The reason I do all day is so people are not forced to come in at a specific time frame that might interfere with their day hopefully allowing people to come in on their time to support the fundraiser,” he says.

Back in mid August that very philosophy contributed to the success of a fundraiser for the Lacey-Minsk Mazowiecki Sister City Association that allowed three students to take an exchange trip to Poland for two weeks this fall semester. The group decorated the store with Polish flags and took to social media with requests and invitations to help reach their goals and is extremely grateful to Thomas for his generosity. “Chad is extremely supportive of our group and Lacey as a whole. He allows non-profit groups to raise funds in a delicious way…” Kim Ellsworth-Glasman of the organization said.

In addition to helping local students afford exchange trips overseas Thomas also helps keep local community programs going. For example Thomas recently helped the Raiders and Warriors cheer squads for the Black Hills Junior Football League raise almost $400 to go towards uniforms, competition fees, and trophies. Leilani Batacan, coach of the Raiders and Warriors, says, “I will continue to do fundraisers through them because they are so fun and the staff is so great to the kids and helpful to the community.”

Thomas estimates that he’s helped raise over $40,000 for charitable causes over the last two and a half years alone and while he’s proud of that number he’s always looking for other ways to give back to the community, such as offering a military discount of 15% for his fellow servicemen.

Like most other Frozen Yogurt shops hosting a fundraiser at Twisties is a fairly simple process. Thomas recommends calling him at the store or sending Twisties a message on Facebook.

Plenty of other Frozen yogurt shops such as Orange Leaf, Myo, Menchies, Yogurtland, and Tutti Frutti even have their own fundraising pages online to help community organizations set up fundraisers at their local shops.
